Swim Wales Summer Events Update

2020 British Summer Championships and Respective Home Nation Summer Meets including the Swim Wales Summer Open, Welsh National Open Water Championships & Welsh Development Meet Cancellation Notice:

To Swim Wales Affiliated Clubs and Their Members, Volunteers, Participants, Customers and Partners.

The safety and the well-being of our people is, as always, our top priority; we continue to follow the advice and guidance of Welsh Government, UK Government, WHO and FINA. Last night the UK Government took further steps to protect both our health and our NHS. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the work of those in key roles, including nurses, doctors, teachers and other critical workers; your efforts are recognised by the communities around you and we are all incredibly grateful.

Following recent developments, the decision has been made, by the Home Nations, British Swimming and the Performance Implementation Group, to cancel 2020 British Summer Championships and respective Home Nation Summer Meets including the Swim Wales Summer Open. The decision to cancel these events has not been made lightly, and we want to apologise to swimmers who I am sure have worked hard to compete on this stage.

We have also made the decision to cancel the Welsh Development meet on 04 July 2020 and the Welsh National Open Water Championships on 08 August 2020.

We will continue to comply with all Welsh Government, UK Government, WHO and FINA guidelines and we will follow any other restrictions that are imposed. If you are working with Swim Wales across education, sales or development plans we want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to minimise risk. We have reviewed and implemented many of our procedures, beyond the protocols required by the authorities:

  • Our staff have been fully briefed on best practice health and hygiene
  • Our staff have been issued with the tools necessary to work from home and continue to support our affiliated clubs and their members, volunteers, participants, customers and partners.

We hope these actions will reinforce your confidence that Swim Wales is taking the Covid-19 crisis seriously, and we apologise for having to cancel the events. We look forward to ‘aquatic activities’ across Wales returning to normal in the near future.

On behalf of all of us at Swim Wales, we thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time.
